#

The Bangalore Java User Group (JUG) meetup, hosted at the Red Hat office, was a knowledge-rich gathering that brought together Java developers to explore modern Java, Spring Boot, and software supply-chain best practices. A major highlight of the meetup was the session by Sonatype (Maven Central) engineers Jamie Lee Coleman and Steve Poole, who shed light on vulnerability testing in Maven dependencies and strategies for maintaining backward-compatible Spring Boot applications. The event also featured deep dives into Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.x, covering key advancements such as Records, Text Blocks, type inference with var, Java 17 as the new baseline, enhanced testing using Docker Compose and Testcontainers, improved JDBC and REST clients, declarative HTTP clients, and expanded GraalVM native image support. Beyond the technical depth, the meetup fostered vibrant discussions, learning, and collaboration—making it a valuable experience for developers eager to stay current with the Java ecosystem.

RedHat Community Meetup

My Learning
#

As an active participant, I engaged deeply with the sessions and discussions, strengthening my understanding of modern Java and Spring Boot development practices. One of the most inspiring moments for me was meeting Navin Reddy, whose educational content played a significant role in making Java accessible during my early learning journey. Interacting with him and discussing technology was a meaningful reminder of how community knowledge-sharing creates lasting impact. Throughout the meetup, I actively exchanged ideas with fellow developers, explored best practices around secure dependency management, testing strategies, and JVM evolution, and reflected on how these learnings can be shared back with the wider community. This experience reinforced my belief that meetups like these are not just about staying technically updated—but about connecting with people who inspire, teach, and elevate the ecosystem together.
