Event Summary#
The Tamil Nadu Java User Group (TNJUG) organized an exceptional developer meetup at Thoughtworks, Coimbatore, hosting globally renowned speaker, author, and educator Dr. Venkat Subramaniam for an impactful session on “Finding and Fixing Issues with Legacy Code using AI.”

The evening was filled with high energy, deep technical insights, and engaging storytelling. Starting with great enthusiasm, the session seamlessly ran until 10:00 PM with the entire room thoroughly captivated from beginning to end.
Venkat demonstrated practical techniques for approaching legacy codebases with modern AI tools, emphasizing the mindset of “AI is a tool — ask what tool do I need, rather than what can I do with this tool.” Through live problem-solving, relatable examples, and his trademark wit, he broke down complex modernization concepts into clear, actionable principles.

The meetup served as a powerful gathering for developers, architects, and community members in and around Coimbatore, offering an open space to discuss real-world engineering challenges, AI adoption strategies, and software craftsmanship.
A special thanks to Thoughtworks for hosting the event and championing tech community initiatives, and to Santhosh from Thoughtworks, Coimbatore, for enabling this meetup on short notice.
My Contribution / Learnings#
Having attended a KochiJUG meetup a year ago where I first experienced Venkat’s captivating storytelling and deep technical delivery, this event was an emotional full-circle moment for me as an organizer helping host him in Coimbatore.

As an organizer representing the Tamil Nadu Java User Group, my key contributions and takeaways included:
- Coordinating and Hosting: Facilitated end-to-end event planning, speaker coordination, and hosting for Dr. Venkat Subramaniam in Coimbatore.
- Venue & Community Collaboration: Partnered closely with the Thoughtworks Coimbatore team and Santhosh to set up the venue, AV systems, and attendee experience seamlessly at short notice.
- Engaging the Developer Community: Managed community outreach, attendee flow, and active moderation during the interactive Q&A segments until late evening.
- Key Learnings: Reinforced the power of storytelling in technical education and the profound value of community building in connecting passionate engineers.

“From being an eager attendee at a KochiJUG meetup years ago, inspired by how knowledge could be presented and shared, to now helping host the same person in Coimbatore—it feels like a beautiful full circle moment. Keep learning. Keep sharing. Keep building communities. You never know where one meetup might take you.”
