Event Summary#

Participated as a Jury Member for the Buildathon event conducted by the CodeOnJVM community at Genesys, Chennai. It was a wonderful experience collaborating with fellow panel members and reviewing innovative projects built by passionate developers and students.

Had great discussions with Yaga Priyan, Jai Ganesh, Parthaan, and Swetha while evaluating projects, understanding real-world use cases, architecture decisions, scalability considerations, and problem-solving approaches followed by the participants.

One major takeaway from the event was understanding how AI is rapidly transforming software development. Tasks that once took months can now be completed within days or even hours with the right usage of AI tools. The focus is gradually shifting from writing repetitive boilerplate code toward design thinking, system architecture, user experience, and solving real-world problems effectively.
The event also highlighted an important reality: Building software is becoming easier with AI, but effectively guiding, validating, and collaborating with AI is the new engineering challenge.
It was inspiring to see developers experimenting, innovating, and adapting to this new era of software engineering.
My Contribution#

- Reviewed and evaluated multiple Buildathon projects
- Analyzed implementation approaches, scalability, and design decisions
- Discussed real-world scenarios and edge cases with participants
- Collaborated with jury panel members during project assessments
- Shared feedback and improvement suggestions with teams
- Encouraged participants to focus on problem-solving and product thinking alongside AI-assisted development
A memorable realization from the event: “Earlier developers searched Stack Overflow for solutions. Now AI generates the solutionβ¦ and developers debug why the AI was confidently wrong.” π

Overall, the experience provided valuable insights into the future of AI-assisted software development and the evolving role of developers in the industry.
