Green Lab Inauguration Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Kongu Engineering College

Event Summary

I had the opportunity to be part of the Green Lab inauguration at Kongu Engineering College, an inspiring initiative bringing together students, faculty, and community members around learning, innovation, and sustainability.

What made the event particularly meaningful was the ownership demonstrated by the students. They were actively involved throughout the entire process — from planning and coordination to final execution — taking complete responsibility for making the event happen.

As mentors and community leaders, our focus was on creating the space for them to lead, experiment, make decisions, and learn through the journey. It was truly encouraging to see students move beyond theoretical learning and apply their knowledge in a tangible, real-world setting.

Address and Project Showcase Inside the Green Lab

Attending as an organizer and guest mentor representing the Tamil Nadu Java User Group (Tamilnadu JUG), my contribution was primarily focused on mentoring and enabling the students:

  • Enabling Student Leadership: Worked closely with the student teams to help them structure their approach to organizing the event, encouraging them to take full ownership of diverse responsibilities while remaining available for guidance whenever needed.
  • Learning by Doing: Rather than directing every step, championed the philosophy of giving students the space to take charge, make decisions, troubleshoot on the ground, and learn firsthand through execution.
  • Nurturing Confidence: The most rewarding aspect was witnessing their confidence expand exponentially as they carried out the planning, hardware setup, coordination, and execution of the launch.

I am deeply grateful to Jayasurya Balasubramaniyam, Ram Prakash, and Dr. R. Baskar for gracing the occasion and sharing their valuable insights.

A special thanks to the faculty and fellow Tamil Nadu JUG members — Sathish Kumar Thiyagarajan, Geetha Elango, and Sai Mounik A — for their continuous support, camaraderie, and guidance.

For me, this was more than just an inauguration. It was a shining example of how mentorship, when combined with student ownership, creates profound and lasting learning experiences.

A truly memorable day of mentorship, ownership, and student-led execution. 🌱
